How You Should be Engaging Your Event Attendees

To get the most out of your expo and achieve your desired outcomes, your event needs to actively engage your attendees. This is one of the most important components of event management and will contribute to the overall success of your expo.

Your exhibitors should employ tactics to engage attendees with their booth and their brand, but as event organisers it's also your responsibility to keep your attendees entertained and engaged throughout the day. To make this process much easier, trust in an exhibition planner and supplier to take care of the difficult tasks for you so you can focus on what truly matters: your target audience.

This article will help you identify ways that you can enhance the experience and enjoyment of your attendees by implementing strategies that promote connection and entertainment, thus encouraging engagement.

Get active on social media

Social media is a great tool that can be used to engage your attendees with your expo and with each other. Before your event starts create social media accounts and pages for your event to share your content and build an online community of attendees. Develop a unique and memorable hashtag that you can use, and attendees can follow to share their thoughts, images and to keep up to date with your event. This will not only create an engaging space, but it will also help you promote your event. During the event, you can continue to use this hashtag and your social media accounts to create engagement, share live updates, and allow attendees to share their own content. Once you build your social media you can also use it after the event to continue sharing highlights or start promoting a new event.

Introduce a networking space

Dedicate a space in your floor plan that is open for people to use to network with each other. This can be as simple as having a coffee cart surrounded by round tables so that attendees are encouraged to sit back and interact with others. Networking space don’t have to be fancy, just a simple range of sofas, tables and chairs will be enough to see some sparked conversations. As a bonus, your attendees will appreciate a space where they can relax at your busy expo. If you’re still hesitant about including networking opportunities at your event, this blog post ‘Why You Need Networking Activities at Your Expo’ may provide some useful insights into the benefits it can provide you.

Introduce technology and apps

People are always interested in new and exciting technology, so introduce it into your events to engage your attendees. Use video walls or virtual reality to entertain your attendees. Additionally, there’s apps and software available you can use for your event that will allow you to create custom content and unique features for your attendees to use. These apps can be used as a match making software so that you can connect attendees based on their common interest, or they can also be used to share live updates and content that will interest your attendees. People can easily download your event app to keep engaged both before, during and after your event.

Send emails before and after

An email is your first opportunity to make a connection with your attendees and begin to engage them with your event and company. Before the event starts send out an email to attendees to extend a welcome. Include any social media links with hashtags and images you think they may find interesting and can use to keep up to date with your event. After the event finishes send out thank you emails to your attendees to show your appreciation and make them feel valued.

Ask for feedback

Once the event concludes, ask your attendees for feedback on what they enjoyed or didn’t enjoy about your expo. This will increase the engagement between them and your brand. It also gives them the opportunity to contribute to your event through sharing their opinion. Asking for feedback will also assist you in improving your event so that attendees continue to enjoy any further events you plan.

Workshops and guest speakers

This is a great way to encourage your attendees to interact and learn at your expo. Choose topics that interest the people attending your event so they can join groups of like minded attendees. Guest speakers or panel discussions give attendees the opportunity to learn from industry experts and contribute to conversations that are interesting to them.

You can continue the learning experience by creating an online community using Facebook or an email newsletter where attendees can connect with each other and share industry insights even after the event concludes.
